CHICAGO, November 1, 2005 – tvCompass Inc.
announced today that its board of directors has named Edward J.
Zylka to serve as the company’s chief executive officer.
Paul Duggan, tvCompass’ non-executive chairman, said that the
board unanimously selected Zylka based on his strong track record
leading the development and successful launch of innovative
technology products.
“The board is extremely pleased to welcome Ed Zylka as our new
CEO,” Duggan said. “Ed is ideally qualified to lead tvCompass. He
brings to our company not only a wealth of experience in the field
of technology and business operations, but a keen understanding of
the emerging opportunities in the mobile interactive entertainment
sphere.”
Zylka, 46, had served since 2003 as General Manager of Motorola’s
Mobile Devices business, where he directed mobile software solutions
subsidiaries on a global basis, including 4thpass Inc. and Starfish
Inc. Zylka established Motorola’s Enterprise Solutions group and
introduced MOTOSYNC™, a mobile application suite for over-the-air
synchronization of e-mail, calendar and contacts, in partnership
with industry leaders such as Microsoft and RIM. Previously, Zylka
was founder of General Instrument’s SURFboard™ cable modem, now
Motorola’s Connected Home business group. SURFboard™ is currently
the worldwide market share leader in broadband cable modem products.
“Ed came to our attention because of his proven ability to lead
high performing teams that develop pioneering, industry-altering
consumer technology products. His experience in both the mobile
communications and in-home Internet connectivity sectors make him
uniquely suited to lead tvCompass,” commented Duggan. “We are deeply
impressed by Ed’s understanding of tvCompass’ strengths and his
vision for the company’s accelerated growth. We are confident that
he will bring precisely the combination of forward thinking and
strategic discipline needed to propel tvCompass to its full growth
potential.”
Zylka said, “tvCompass stands at the center of today’s
interactive entertainment technology industry, and I am delighted to
head its leadership team. I look forward to working with the
management team to establish tvCompass as a definitive industry
force in today’s mobile entertainment market.”
Zylka will assume the position of CEO immediately. His
appointment coincides with the relocation of the company’s global
headquarters to Chicago, Illinois. He succeeds Peter Florence, a
founder of the company. Florence will now act as vice president of
European operations and will head tvCompass’ European office in
London. Florence will continue to serve as a member of tvCompass’
board.
