A significant client feature of the tvCompass TV 2.0 Platform is an IP connected-advanced IPG solution. The patented and proprietary IPG application and service offers consumers an intuitive way to access, discover, and interact with digital media throughout the home and is initially available as an application on the tvCompass MID. Accessed on a wireless handheld device, the IPG enables TV viewers to experience uninterrupted TV viewing while browsing comprehensive programming information from cable, satellite and HDTV terrestrial broadcast channels. As a second screen experience, viewers can browse or interact with IPG listings without the need to be physically in front of the TV, with access virtually anywhere within the digitally connected home. Viewers can wirelessly control and interact with their TV or set top box by using tvCompass's patented DirecTuneTM feature – tune directly from the IPG listing to the channel of interest by selecting the program entry (e.g.click on HBO to directly tune the numeric channel). TV listings can be viewed by channel or by genre - Movies, HDTV, Sports, etc. Viewers can set up reminders for their favorite shows, tag a favorite show and send it to a friend as a text message, and enable individual TV viewers in the same home can create personalized guides ensuring that favorite channels are just a click away.
The IPG is designed to provide control, accessibility and interaction throughout the home to a variety of devices and content types. It is architected to be 1) software portable to other mobile wireless devices, 2) extensible to a variety of real time transport and network solutions including infra-red (IR), IP, WiFi, UPnP, DLNA and proprietary wireless systems, 3) flexible in support of direct and network device control including TVs, set top boxes, DVRs, digital media adapters and media servers, and 4) open to supporting third party data formats and interfaces including TV listings, video on demand and pay per view services, satellite music services, web services, digital home media, video, photos, music, XML and RSS. The TV 2.0 Platform server side implementation provides IPG application management, data hosting, and Internet linked 3rd party data interface.
